Educational Opportunities
in the Villages of Van Buren
The Harmony Community School draws it's student population from three towns: Bonaparte, Farmington, and Hillsboro. The District office is located in historic Bonaparte, Iowa. The Elementary, also located in Bonaparte, housing Preschool through grade 5. Both three and four-year-old preschool options are offered. The Middle School is located down river, at Farmington, Iowa. The Middle School houses grades five through eight. The High School is nestled on a rustic piece of ground along rural J40, north of Farmington. The High School houses grades 9-12 and offers a variety of academics, including ICN and AP on-line courses.
The Van Buren Community School District draws its students from Keosauqua, Birmingham, Douds, Cantril, Milton, and Stockport. The Middle/High School is located in Keosauqua. There are two Elementary sites for grades K-6 in Douds & Stockport. Van Buren is one of the leading schools in the area with updated computer systems, well-trained staff, remodeled classrooms, a work-study program, & caring faculty all contribute to a 99% graduation rate.
Indian Hills Community College has a service center located in Keosauqua. IHCC realizes constantly changing demands have made learning a lifetime activity. In addition to the wide variety of Customized Learning courses offered each term, IHCC also has many services available to all residents of Area XV, which includes Van Buren County. These include: Adult Basic Education; literacy programs, English-as-a-Second-Language, high school completion, skills enhancement, and post-high school refresher courses. Adult Career Supplementary Courses; due to the ever-changing technology in business and industry, IHCC offers many short courses, from 8 hours to 360 hours, to help employees keep up their skills. Courses are offered on an "as needed" basis. Re-licensure Courses; IHCC has courses for cosmetologists, funeral directors, insurance professionals, nurses, pharmacists, and real estate professionals.
